The Show Stoppers!

Our students are incredibly amazing and overcame so many obstacles! The 2019 State Vocal Jazz Fest was VERY exciting with some "firsts."

The Conners Emerson Show Stoppers for the first time ever received a GOLD award and Placed 2nd, or, as one parent prefers to say it, we are First Runner Up to State Champs. Keep in mind that this is in Division I with the big schools! Orono placed 1st and Reeds Brook 3rd.

For the second year in a row, we received the choreography award. I am so pleased to say that Soren received the Outstanding Musicianship Award!

Here comes the real exciting news. Not only did we receive a Gold but our scores were the highest that we have ever earned - 96, 96, and 98. A 98!!!!

Our young group earned these awards while overcoming so many obstacles - flu, flooding - all sorts of plagues! These scores were way higher than last year's when we were State Champions in Division I. All of our soloists earned a I rating: Molly, Lily, Abby, Bailey, Harmony, Mai, and Annine.

I am so very proud of our students. Their behavior and good manners were impeccable. RobinSue and Wyman provided pizza for the students after the awards ceremony. It was truly a very special and memorable time.

A sincere thanks to parents, staff, and administrators your encouragement and support throughout the show choir season.

The Pit: Soren Hopkins-Goff, auxilliary percussion and Eli Daigle, cello

~ Plant Kindness and Gather Love ~

a Maine Musical to be performed at The Criterion by grades K-4, Tuesday, May 8, 2018, 6:00 pm

Dirigo

This is the first in a 10-song series from the Maine Musical, Plant Kindness and Gather Love, authored and composed by Mrs. Young and Mrs. Edmondson. This week in the K-4 music classes, the students learned that some songs are composed in a minor key and sounds rather spooky. This is true of the song, Dirigo. This song also presents many facts about Maine. The students examined the Maine State Flag and identified various things in the crest, which are presented in the song, Dirigo.

Above is the video to the song, Dirigo, for you to sing along with at home. (Please note the image is placeholder for the song).

Be watching (and listening) for another song from Plant Kindness and Gather Love in the next newsletter!

~ Music Fest 2017 ~

The 3rd Annual Music Fest was this held the week after break, beginning January 3, and culminating in a Showcase of the fifteen electives on January 6.

Twenty-three artists shared their talents, knowledge, and passion with the 7th and 8th grade students. The electives that students participated in were: "Roadies," Speaker Building, Steel Drum, Guitar, Music/Art Installation, Samba, Scat Cat, Keyboard Crew, Tin Whistles, Hip Hop Theater, Hip Hop Basketball, Jazz Improv, Starting a Band, World Dance, and Improv Theatre. Enjoy the pics from Music Fest 2017!

The evening concert was outstanding. Thirty string players from CES in grades 3-8 performed two tunes led by Alasdair & Natalie in various parts - melody, drones, rthythmic stuff . . . there was no "shlubbing!" At the end of the concert for the encore, Alasdair invited our students to return for dancing or more fiddling. They had a grand time! Alasdair and Natalie were so gracious to our students.

~ November 30, 2016 workshops with Alasdair Fraser & Natalie Haas ~

What an amazing day it was. They grab each note and bring out the excitement of the tune. They ignited the Conners Emerson string players!

The 5th grade Music Classes are honoring Acadia National Park's Centennial with their nature decorated dulcimers.

The students constructed Appalachian Dulcimers and painted animal tracks, lupine, mountains, and other symbols or nature, which are characteristic of ANP, on their dulcimers. Some students have even composed little Acadian ditties!

You are cordially invited to the Christmas Cheer Concert on Saturday December 5 at The Grand Auditorium at 6:00 pm. The Eastern Maine Pops Orchestra for Young Musicians will combine forces with The Bar Harbor Town Band for a Christmas spectacular featuring traditional and modern arrangements of carols. The audience will raise voices in song during a sing along. The TEMPO Woodwind Ensemble will perform a luscious arrangement of Greensleeves and the TEMPO Vocal and String Ensembles will unite in a stunning composition, Forever, composed in the early Baroque style. Admission: $11/adults $6/youth General seating but you may phone ahead and have your tickets ready for you: 667-9500

Inspiration! AKA workshops, concerts, and competitions.......new tunes and choreography learned

from workshops in harp, fiddling, cello fiddling, national and ceilidh dancing and more.

One highlight was meeting and learning from Harper Kim Robertson!

Also, fiddler Alasdair Fraser, cellist Natalie Haas, fiddle group Hillali, were fantastic.

The 5th grade music class students are constructing mountain dulcimers. In recognition of the 100th anniversary of Acadia National Park, the students created designs representative of ANP - sunrises, Northern Lights, sea critters, wildlife, waves, wildflowers - and have paint their designs on the dulcimer body.

Saturday, May 30th at 7:00 PMThe Grand Auditorium 165 Main Street, Ellsworth, MEBox Office: 667-9500General admission: $15/adults, $10/youth (age 12 and under)Safety Last! (1923. USA. 1hr, 13min. Directed by Harold Lloyd. Rated G) Harold Lloyd (with Chaplin and Keaton, one of the three comedy giants of silent films) plays a small-town bumpkin trying to make it in the big city, and who finds employment as a lowly department-store clerk. He comes up with a wild publicity stunt to draw attention to the store, resulting in an incredible feat of derring-do on his part that gets him started on the climb to success. Laugh-out-loud funny and jaw-dropping in equal measure, Safety Last! is a movie experience par excellence, featuring the iconic sequence in which Harold hangs off of a clock face on the side of a skyscraper! TEMPO (The Eastern Maine Pops Orchestra for Young Musicians) brings an all-new original score composed by Rebecca Edmondson that will be played live by the youth orchestra in synch with this hi-def, restored silent comedy classic! The orchestra is conducted by Ethan Edmondson, with thirty-five middle school and high school musicians from Central and Downeast Maine (from MDI to Benedicta, Searsport to Sullivan).

TEMPO is non-profit and is under the fiscal sponsorship of the Town Hill VIS.

The Grand Auditorium in Ellsworth is home to TEMPO.
